A Call for Urgent Police Investigation
Hopefield residents are losing faith in the justice system, as ongoing allegations of corruption and police negligence remain unaddressed. Despite repeated efforts to seek accountability, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Hopefield continues to ignore serious cases, leaving victims without justice.
In a desperate plea, the Hopefield Community Forum NPC has once again written to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), calling for immediate action against corruption within the local SAPS. The letter, sent on November 22, 2024, highlights the community’s frustration with unresolved cases, including violent crimes, burglary, and racial discrimination that have been swept under the rug.
Broken Promises and Police Inaction
The people of Hopefield have been fighting for justice for years. In September 2023, the Minister of Police visited the town after numerous complaints about cases that were never investigated. The Minister and senior police officials promised action, and case numbers were submitted. But over a year later, nothing has changed.
On November 14, 2024, the community turned to the Human Rights Commission for answers. Instead of addressing specific cases, the Commission offered nothing but a general discussion on human rights—completely ignoring the core issue of police corruption.
Key Allegations Against Hopefield SAPS
1. Failure to Investigate Serious Crimes:
Cases involving assault, burglary, and even attempted murder have gone nowhere.
One example is a woman who was nearly killed on the R47 highway in November 2023—yet no charges were ever filed.
It is alleged that some SAPS officers refuse to properly investigate cases, particularly when the victims are from colored and black communities.
2. Illegal Community Policing Forum (CPF) Elections:
The newly elected Community Policing Forum (CPF) management was allegedly appointed illegally.
This took place under the watch of a high-ranking general who had previously visited Hopefield with the Minister of Police.
3. False Accusations Against the Community:
Hopefield Police Station Commander, Captain Godliep Adams, falsely claimed that the community refuses to cooperate with police.
In reality, residents have provided evidence, case numbers, and formal complaints—yet no action has been taken.
4. NPA’s Failure to Respond:
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has ignored multiple letters from the community requesting intervention.
No updates have been given on cases that were supposed to be under investigation.
Demands for Immediate Action
The Hopefield Community Forum is demanding the following:
✔ An independent investigation into corruption within Hopefield SAPS.
✔ A formal audit of the CPF elections to ensure legality.
✔ Public updates on pending criminal cases.
✔ An inquiry into the conduct of Captain Godliep Adams.
✔ Accountability mechanisms to restore public trust in the justice system.
A Message to Authorities: Act Now or Face Public Outcry
The silence of the NPA and SAPS is no longer acceptable. If these demands are ignored, Hopefield residents will be left with no choice but to escalate their fight for justice through peaceful protests, media exposure, and legal action.
The people of Hopefield will not stop until those responsible for corruption and neglect are held accountable.
