Three Armed Robbery Suspects Captured in Northpine
Kraaifontein: Earlier today, at approximately 13:37, a vigilant SJC Armed Response officer took swift action after receiving an urgent tip-off about three armed suspects targeting commuters near the OK Mini Market on Old Paarl Road.
SJC AR Officer Saayman, who was on routine patrol, was alerted by a concerned civilian about the ongoing robberies. Acting immediately, he spotted one suspect fleeing towards the industrial area across Old Paarl Road. A high-speed foot chase followed, ending with Officer Saayman successfully restraining the suspect against a wall. A search revealed a firearm hidden in the suspect’s trousers. Remaining composed under pressure, Officer Saayman carefully disarmed the suspect, secured the weapon, and placed him under arrest.
Reinforcements soon arrived as the SJC Northpine response team transported the suspect to the NCID Control Room in Northpine. Meanwhile, determined to track down the remaining two suspects, Officer Saayman gathered intelligence from a local resident, leading him to a location in Pine Mews Crescent.
Partnering with SJC AR Officer De Jager, the team moved swiftly to the identified address, where both suspects were apprehended without incident. Further investigation linked the trio to a violent robbery two weeks prior, during which a woman was stabbed.
SAPS arrived shortly after to take the suspects into custody. The recovered firearm was later identified as a modified airsoft gun.
A big salute to the SJC Armed Response Team for their quick thinking and dedication to keeping the community safe!
