Fake Hit-and-Run Scam on R43
Cape Coast News – March 2025
Motorists traveling on the R43 between Hawston and Fisherhaven are urged to remain vigilant after reports of a new scam involving staged hit-and-run incidents.
According to recent reports, scammers are positioning a young person on the side of the road, appearing injured as if they have been struck by a vehicle. When well-meaning drivers stop to assist, criminals take advantage of the situation to rob them, often targeting cellphones, wallets, and other valuables.
Earlier this week, concerned motorists who stopped to help and called emergency services were informed by authorities that the so-called accident was, in fact, a setup designed to lure unsuspecting victims.
Motorists are advised to:
Avoid stopping for suspicious roadside incidents.
Immediately report any such scenes to local police or Overstrand Law Enforcement.
Stay inside their vehicles and call for assistance from a safe location.
For emergencies, contact the nearest authorities:
Hermanus Police: 028 313 5300

Kleinmond Police: 028 271 8200
